Removing a Polymer Capacitor
Solid polymer capacitors are commonly used on laptop motherboards for power regulation. They have much lower ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) compared to traditional electrolytic capacitors, allowing them to stabilize high-speed power systems.
Challenge: Removal is difficult because the pads connect to large internal copper planes (power and ground), which act as heat sinks. This requires higher temperatures and sustained heat from a hot air station.
Diagnosing A Motor Problem
Click picture to view. Troubleshooting a motor in a fan that converts heat into electrical energy. Diagnostic steps included:
- Verified continuity with a multimeter.
- Confirmed thermal coupling was producing adequate voltage.
- Identified lack of thermal paste and soot buildup as the likely root causes.
Currently documenting daily rework practice and hardware troubleshooting. Open to small-batch assembly, component-level repairs, and technical hardware support projects.
